Figures just released show that UK manufacturing has just recorded its biggest increase in a quarter of a century as production jumped following the initial reaction to the Brexit vote.
East Yorkshire MP Sir Greg Knight has welcomed the news which shows that we have returned to “business as usual” following the June 23 vote.
Employment numbers also rose for the first time this year and the FTSE 250 index is now just 2.5pc away from its all-time high with the pound strengthening following on these figures.
Sir Greg added: “This shows that the British people were right to reject ‘project fear’. The fundamentals of the UK economy are strong and we are now seeing the market begin to boom. These figures are not just numbers on a screen but they represent a growing economy, more confidence and buoyant tourism figures which mean more jobs for people in East Yorkshire.”
“It is plain for all to see –even the discredited doom-mongers, that not only can the UK, which is the world’s 5th largest economy, survive on its own two feet – but we can do much better. We can prosper and thrive”.
