East Yorkshire MP Sir Greg Knight is one of a number of MPs and Peers who attended the launch of Hull 2017 – UK City of Culture at the House of Commons.
The event was launched by Baroness Bottomley (Conservative) and Lord Mandelson (Labour) to a packed meeting on the Terrace of the House of Commons.
Hull was awarded the ‘UK City of Culture 2017’ title two years ago. Every 4 years the award is given to a city that demonstrates belief in the power of culture.
In 2017, working with local, national and international artistes Hull will celebrate the culture of the city and its place in the wider cultural area of the North.
Sir Greg supported the event which was the official Westminster launch of the publicity campaign. Also present was the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport John Whittingdale MP, Hull West MP Alan Johnson and others.
Sir Greg said: “Hull is a great city and the culture year has my full support.
