East Yorkshire MP Sir Greg Knight has welcomed new consumer protection measures, including longer refund rights, which have just come into force under the Consumer Rights Act.

From now on, anyone who buys faulty goods will be entitled to a full refund for up to 30 days after the purchase. This scraps the previous “reasonable amount of time” definition which was open to argument and different interpretations by each retailer.

The Act now also covers second-hand goods when bought through a retailer and encompasses other services, including software downloaded online.

Sir Greg, who backed the Bill in Parliament and who actively campaigns for consumer rights in Parliament said: “When people part with their hard-earned cash they deserve to get good quality goods and services that are performed as promised. This new law means that when things do go wrong it will be easier for the consumer to be compensated.”
