Stamford Bridge student Ben Etty has completed a week of work experience with East Yorkshire MP Sir Greg Knight at the House of Commons.

Ben, 16, who attends Archbishop Holgate’s school in York, hopes to go on to study history at university next year.

His work included watching debates in the House of Commons and in Westminster Hall, attending a Select Committee and going on a tour of the Parliamentary buildings, as well as undertaking research work for Sir Greg.

Speaking about his time in Parliament Ben said: ‘It was fantastic to spend a week observing how our democracy functions. Working in the Palace of Westminster was surreal and the real highlight was getting the chance to watch the Prime Minister on my very first day!’

Sir Greg said: ‘I was very impressed with Ben’s work and it has been a pleasure to give someone interested in current affairs a chance to come to Westminster and see how Parliament operates. I think it is very important that young people are as engaged and informed about politics as possible.’
