East Yorkshire MP Greg Knight is backing a new bid by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council for funding to dual the A1079 between Pocklington and Wilberfoss.

The Council have applied to the York, North Yorkshire & East Riding Enterprise Partnership for £13m to fund improvements on the A1079. The new funding will need to be approved by both the Enterprise Partnership and the Government who are offering the money through their Growth Deal fund. If successful the funds would be used to dual around a mile of the A1079 between Pocklington & Wilberfoss.

Sir Greg said: “I am backing this application to the hilt. If successful it would help ease traffic delays between York and the East Riding and bring benefits to local businesses.”

Sir Greg added: “If approved these works will not only make people’s day to day lives easier but it will help business and could provide a further boost to jobs in the area”.

This new bid follows a successful campaign from Sir Greg and others for the Market Weighton roundabout funding, where work will commence later this year.

A decision on this latest bid is expected by July this year.
